Multiple addresses per contact in contact list
« on: June 14, 2009, 12:32:38 PM »
Request:  Allow one to enter multiple email addresses per contact.  When choosing to email a particular contact the first email address is used.  However, emails from any of the addresses for that contact will be accepted and not be queued.

I have a number of family members and friends (myself included) which have multiple email addresses from which they might send my kids messages (home, work, or sometimes they are just schizo and have several).  Usually they have one main one where they would prefer the kids email them, but want to have the kids accounts accept email from any of their addresses.  The work around to this is to add multiple contact entries for a single person, but that is confusing to my kids, especially when I'd prefer they use one address in particular for emailing me.

This is a good idea that I'll have to consider.  There is a constant struggle to keep the parental controls as easy and straightforward to use, while allowing useful functionality.  Let me think about this one.

Thanks for considering.

One last pitch:  I wouldn't want to make the parental controls any more complicated.  Without this feature, I think it makes things MORE  confusing because instead of thinking about this in terms of "who are the people that I want emailing my kids --> What are their email addresses?", I have to try to figure out how to mentally group the email addresses, or not thing of the contacts as people, but rather a list of email addresses.  The latter works, but becomes confusing from the kids' perspective when using it as an address book.

I think the use case where would be fairly common.  I just noticed that almost every one of my family members that would be emailing my kids have at least two, sometimes three addresses.  Right now I have to create three separate contact entries if I don't want their messages to queue.  If instead, you just let people enter multiple addresses for a single name (even if it was in the same address field and use commas or semi-colons as delimiters) it would help clean things up a lot.

Another idea I had that isn't quite as nice, but which you might think simpler, would be to only show kids only the first address book entry and suppress any others that have EXACTLY the same nickname and full name... ?

Thanks
